Little known veteran's benefit can help Gladwin County Record Last updated: Wednesday, March 07th, 2007 11:25:23 AM GLADWIN COUNTY -- A little known benefit through the Veteran’s Administration is beginning to make a difference in the lives of veterans and their surviving spouses in northern Michigan. This benefit assists in paying for elder care expenses either through an assisted living facility, nursing home or in their own homes. “Currently we have families receiving the benefit in our Gladwin and West Branch communities and also families waiting to hear from the VA for approval in the Roscommon and Houghton Lake communities. We are so pleased to see that veterans and their families are able to benefit from their wartime service. Our country has certainly benefited from these individuals and their efforts,” said Diane Friedreichsen, administrator for The Brook Retirement Community. The Aid and Attendance benefit can help with home, assisted living or nursing home care. The benefit is available to veterans who served during wartime and their spouses, if they cannot live on their own. Call The Brook Retirement Community at 989-426-8700 or Gladwin County Veteran’s Affairs office at 989-426-4891 for more information.
