i just wanted to remind people, for those reveiving service connection compensation, that its the time of the year to apply for clothing allowances. Examples of what qualified for clothing allowances could be skin related conditions and perscriptions that stains or leaves oil residue on clothing, rigid braces for back, knees or other parts that damages clothes, forearm crutches perscribed by primary care. Again, conditions must be service connected with device perscribed by VA.

You Will want to "mess it up" as much as possible.
Cry, don't Try to memorize things, have a General Idea of your life before the military, during the military before the trauma (all stuff you know so don't worry about it)
"I was assaulted on or about the date, where you were stationed, and how your life changed as a result."
Look at the markers on page 3 of VA Form 0781a.
IF you didn't put that in your claim, get help to -- fill it out, AND TAKE IT WITH YOU TO THE EXAM. Have them make a copy for their file.
If you are on meds, throw them in a grocery bag and take them with you. If they ask what meds you take, give them the bag.
Go with someone if you can. It is helpful to debrief right after. If you can't, find someone ahead of time to call.
AND The biggest part is:
Plan something, anything you like to do for after. If you like to walk, watch a video, listen to music, draw something you can look forward to, and will be able to focus on immediately after your exam.
Remember, it helps them to See your symptoms... Losing keys, forgetting what you are doing, etc. Please wear the clothes you are wearing right now! Don't wash them. Go in like you are staying at home. If your socks don't match, even better.
Never go to the exam dressed up, wearing jewelry, looking like you have it together, cause unfortunately, you don't and That is why you are there.
When they ask you how you are doing - the best answers are "You don't really want to know. My life sucks. I hate myself." Or whatever applies to you. Just don't say "Fine." Because you are not fine, and that is why you are there.
If you have days when you just don't want to wake up in the morning, passive suicidal ideation without a plan, Let them know! This Is the place to share the worst parts of your life.
I hope you get angry, show emotion, or just sit there with no degree of emotion at all.
