When I was eighteen years old, one Sunday morning, just after Tet, 1968, while serving in a light weapons infantry line unit, as my Company Commander's RTO, I was required to enter a mine field to render aid to the wounded, comfort the dying, and retrieve the dead. Enemy incoming fire was reported. I was severely wounded after the 4th explosion. This began my 40+ year odyssey with the V.A.

***Up-Date*** 2009...I should have never drank that Agent Orange Kool-Aid in Vietnam. I had neck cancer in 2008... Although there are many side effects to the cancer treatments, I am now feeling that I can get back on the horse. My wife and I are planning a trip around the world, and visit the few places, we haven't seen yet. October 1st, my oncologist read my PET scan results. It reports that "...this is suspicious for recurrent malignancy." Yesterday I had CT scan done, and next Thursday I am scheduled for day surgery and a biopsy. Since there is no evidence of distant metaphysis, this time, I am very optimistic that we are just dealing with a false positive on the PET scan. I'll know by the end of next week.
I'll keep you posted.

***Up-Date*** June 2, 2011, I have just completed my third year anniversary cancer check-up. CAT & PET scans, as well as other procedures, all came back Cancer Free...
***Up-Date*** August 16,2012, The Buds are Back!!!
After the 2008, cancer treatments etc., along with patches of hair loss, my taste buds were zapped. Gone... Everything tasted like cardboard. This was one of the traditional five senses, that I just wrote off, and adjusted to, accordingly. So, over the last 4 1/2 years, I grew accustomed to not being able to taste food.
Then, out of the blue, over the last few weeks, my sense of taste seems to be returning. I have rediscovered food!!!
Once again, "It's great to be alive".
