I got a call from my rater about my claim prior to his issuing his decision. He stated what he felt I deserved, etc. and asked to me to pull two other appeals in process since they would be redundent after his decision. Kinda seemed like he said "we will give you what you want just go away.. please please", without saying it ya know.

Anyway I did pull the appeals, and he then issued his decison exactly as he said it would be. (God Bless Him.. I GOT R-1!!!... hehe a $3200 raise in my pay a month was kinda nice along with all the backpay, and it only took 2 years)

anyway, thats the only call I have ever had from a rater in 7 years of filing claims for myself and others.

Pete
I think awards are made in October because Oct. 1 is the start of a new fiscal year, and they get "new" money in the budget, since they run out before the end of the year so they have to deny everyone.

Got a call from a member of the rating board at the Montgomery AL RO. I was surprised because the person called to inform me that members of the rating board were trying to deny my claim for asthma, even though I had not been given a C&P. The lady asked me to take down her name and number and to make a note of the date, then told me that if my claim was denied, I needed to file a complaint because the RO failed to schedule a C&P. Needless to say, a couple of days later, I recieved a letter in the mail scheduling a C&P. After all was said and done, I was awarded compensation for asthma even though I was diagnosed with asthma 3 years after leaving the military.

Huh?
Why would "everything come out of Muskogee, OK"?

I agree why OK? I got a call a few years back from the RO here in Columbia SC about some questions they had about my claim but they were still on Assembly Street, I do know all of the Edgewood Arsenal claims are supposed to be sent to Muskogee for processing the VA decided it would be easier to have one claim center handle the processing of these claims due to the still classified data that has to be handled to decide what substances the veteran was exposed to, but that was supposed to have started about 2 years ago my claims were at BVA by that point.....

I know the VA has call centers for different issues all over the place I know if you call a VAMC after hours all of the calls get forwarded to Dayton Ohio and they send e mail to your VAMC to handle the issue the next working day I have found it's easier to order my percocet refill by waiting until about 6 pm instead of spending an hour waiting on my local VAMC to answer the phone in the day I get to talk to a operator in dayton usually right away and I am done in less than 5 minutes I think Dayton is one of the best kept secrets the VA has......

The rater called me and told me he had awarded me 100%. He called because there was a list of symptoms and he would have to consider them informal claims so the decision would be postponed untill all claims were worked. I had to send letter saying the list of symptom was just that and should not be considered individual claims. (they were symptoms of the awarded disability)

The VA called me about a claim telling me that if I did not have any new evidence they would go ahead and process my claim as in "award". I told them I had no more evidence since the evidence was plain. A few weeks later I got the award.

I was called and told of my IU award in late August. There were two other claims that were discussed as well. Is this maybe a new thing the VA is doing?

I know that many suspect that the VA is just a bunch of cheap bastards and I have felt that way mysepf. However, they have their own problems and I do believe that the VA has always had to deal with a limit that they could not go past for awards. I think it is 4% but it may be lower. As the older Vets pass they award more to younger Veterans. This long war has put some pressure on cause now instead of taking turns they are also awarding new and young veterans.

That is why in late summer hardly any awards and than October comes and a lot of awards are made. Can I prove it no but I would like to see a better explanation.

I was called three times this year, first time my VSO called and told me I was awarded 100%, kind of small back pay only went back to 2007. I was called by a rating specialist two weeks ago and asked if I would drop all my remanded claims. I was also called last week and was told I was awarded a claim that was on remand but no difference in pay. So It does happen but I agree it is still very rare. My claim folder is a nightmare and I think they just want me to leave them alone before they have to pay me anymore money.

I have heard of it. I knew a Vet who got over 500,000 retro who had to make special arrangements to pick up a check at the local VAMC.

That said I would consider it very rare for that to happen.
