A disability rating is the percentage of impairment that results as nearly as practicable as the average impairment in civilian earning capacity resulting from specific diseases and injuries listed in the VA rating schedule. The VA refers to a table and, depending on the level of severity of the injury or disease, assigns a percentage to that disability. The percentage of disability determines the amount of your monthly disability payment.
