WAS IT APPROVED AT INITIAL, RECONSIDERATION, ALJ (HEARING), COURT OF APPEALS, FEDERAL COURT. LET US KNOW.

18 years of evidence was denied 2 and 2+ years later I am being scheduled for an ALJ Hearing....1st time denied I could stuff dolls or very very light work 2nd time I had to much education that included 16+ years, 12 years High School, 4 plus years of collage. I went into US Army at 17 after the 10th grade and never been inside of a collage except to get my GED....Its tough whole different animal than the VA.....All or nothing and they use there own doctors even if you have a long history of illnesses. Also the initial process (reconceration which is same process) they (DDS) is very limited to what they can approve...
Though some have passed in the 1st an second try but rarely, you have to be nearly dieing or next to it to get SSA on the first try...

Right after my 100% IU was approved, I applied for SSDI. It was approved the first time in about 3-4 months. Sent them the exact same evidence I sent the VA, plus the VA rating.

Applied for IU and SSDI same time. IU denied, but used that VA sc info to prop up SSDI application and got approved first time around. Disagreed with IU denial, paperwork is in with stronger SC nsupport now.

My SSDI was approved I think in 42 Days.... ( I posted it on this forum the day I was approved I was denied SSI on my initial visit (to fill out the forms) because they said my VA Disability money (100%) disqualified me. It was the first time I ever applyed for it.

I applied in June 99 and was denied, received it in March 2000 on reconsideration. I applied to the VA in 99 and was approved in Dec 2001, 100% TDIU P&T. then in 2004 I was awarded 100% for DMII and 70 % PTSD for SMC

Applied & denied 2005 but was homeless so didn't pursue claim.
Re-applied in Feb 2008, took a year to get denied twice and now approximately 2-year wait to see an ALJ in Oregon.
So, I'm focusing on VA PTSD & IU and then gonna write a request for On The Record decision after.
With Social Security it looks like it's key to really have your ducks in a row the first time; trouble is: all of the attorneys I contacted said, "Call me when you're denied."
My advice to any newbies would be to carefully examine the Blue Book:
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professional...ultListings.htmAnd ensure that your ailments and documentation clearly match that. Pretend like robots are comparing the two as opposed to thinking humans, and you'll have a better shot.
Here's a 2004 graphic illustration:

2004 Allowances/Denials by LevelIn a nutshell: 1st Claim: DENY 63% Appeal: DENY 86% ALJ: Allow 62% (Plus more may be approved with further action)

Kept thinking I would get better after surgery, not! So I finally applied for SSDI and within 6 months was granted.

The ssdi counselor wrote me and said to apply for va but I stalled a few years.
The va is another story. Been basically on their waiting list...or should I say on their baby list...have graduated from the bottle to the sippy cup and jr baby food jars...waiting for a big girl cup and grown up foods! (30 to deceased to sever to hearing to 50 to appeals and bva) now you see my progression with my va waiting list/baby list!
SSDI staff were wonderful and I did majority by phone...then sent in records. Never met anyone in person.

I stopped working in July '07.
Filed in Jan. '08.
Was approved in april '08.
Sent them everything from my VA claim, and sent VA everything from my SSD claim.
I never had a hearing, my references called or anything. Just bam here ya go. This seems to be the case with alot of vets within the past 6 or 7 years.
Is it possible that SSD is taking up the slack for the VA? Kinda points in that direction, but who knows besides our good friends that wipe thier arses with our NODs.

First wanted to thank you all for your sharing your experience with Social Security. I saw that some of the members in this forum with 10, 20 and 50% SC get approved to SS. I did not think it was possible. I thought you had to be at least 70% unemployable. I stopped working in 2003 and I am 50% SC going to school online just so I can get Voc. Rehab $$. Is it possible to get SS if I am 50% enrolled in Voc Rehab. I have PTSD due to MST and Trygeminal Neuralgia (chronic painful nerve attacks that affect my face, requireing the use of percocet every 6 hours) I live in Hawaii (husband in military) and would like to apply if I could. Any advice.

I got approved it in a month and half which is the quickest you can get SSD. It was approved through disability determinations the first step after filing a claim for SSD. If they determine by their in house docs, then it goes to the main office for final adjudication. I think the key to it is having all your evidence and meeting the criteria for disability by their standard. I just used VA records and only had 30 percent at the time for PTSD. I also included in my VA records which they had to read as to why I thought I met the VA criteria as well. The standard they use for the VA and SSD are different they say but, they use the same DSM to do it with lol. So I'd say its the same when you explain it like that to a doctor. I also included a personal evaluation of myself and how i met the standard for disability based on my doctors notes. All these things they have to read to determine as evidence in your claim.

My SSI claim was approved after two yrs at an ALJ hearing.
SSDI was initially denied due to lack of credits.
The SSA claimed I had 20 credits in one month less of 40 quarters which left me short of qualifying for SSDI.
Delta from hadit.com, provided information that veterans who are short of credits can use their military time & earnings to help them qualify for SSDI.
I won my SSDI claim with this information 10 years after my SSI award. They had to pay me 10 years back pay for the deference since they didn't apply this the first time around.
They kept saying for over a year that they applied the military earnings, but when I insisted they send me how they did it in writing, they granted the SSDI award.
Never give up and never trust these agencies to do anything right.
Thank God for hadit.com & members like Delta.

Our situation, I am a vet and so is my husband of 28+ years.1992 had a breakdown on his ship his sugar was elevated but not took into consideration stayed 3 days in observation. My husband served 17 and half years before finding out he was diabetic. His carrier was over. 1994 retired with a rating of 20%. Tried working jobs didn't last long due to bi polar episodes. By 1999 he had become more withdrawn only going to appointments if he was out of medication. He tried again in 2005/2006 to work again this didn't workout. 2006 he had his first stroke than a heart attach. 2008 two strokes resulting in total blindness in one eye. Deteriation has been rapid in the last 18 mo. 50-55% blockage of blood flow to both legs, limited use of arm due to stroke, stomach doesn't diguest without medication, thus food doesn't meet with insulin readings are out of control, now kidneys are failing will have a port put in for his dialysis next mo.New has problem swollowing needs medications crushed i help him bath, dress and change our sheets with accidents. Didn't know could be reevaluated till last year was granted 100% service connected. I left the work force to care for my husband. He now has home base health care. the team comes to our home, Nurse mental health and so on. Social Security has denied his claim stating not enough credits since his last qualifing period of 2003? have requested a hearing.
