how do i prove he was in vietnam

Berta
It should be in his SRB or personnel record where he was and when-
if this is for an Agent Orange claim (one boot on ground needed)his flight schedules would help.

Many flights over Vietnam had to take pit stops. Even if for ten minutes- if he got off the plane to stretch his legs at Danang or any base there-he had one boot on ground.

Has he tried to obtain copies of any orders he got or gotten in touch with his unit buddies yet on this?

Jellis, this can be a difficult thing to prove. his DD214 should have this info on it but that don't mean they will accept it as proof. His 201 file should have his duty stations on it. does he have that? If not he should request them from the St. Louis records center along with his medical records and pay records. If he has any records he kept search thru them. Flight records can also be located and morning and day rosters can be a great help. It took me 4 years to prove I was in vietnam and only then with the help of US Repersentiave. This may take some work but he can win. BTW can he locate any of his buddies and get buddy statments, they carry a lot of weight. Remember never ever give up. Stay with hadit and they will walk you thru this one step at a time. BUT DON'T GIVE UP.

No such thing as 'verbal orders' ... the military always leaves a paper trail. It will just be a matter of finding it. As suggested, St. Louis would be a good place to start with.

I have gone on a few trips ( not out of the country) on verbal orders of the commander BUT I ALWAYS received writen orders to the effect saying verbal orders of the commander are conformned. I am not douting this vets word. He schould be able to get pay records copy of TDY vouches something. If it was me I would try to get copys of old LES it will at least have hazzards duty pay listed that would be a start
Just thinking out loud
