I understand there is an agent orange registry.

How does one go about getting on this registry and getting the examinations associated with it.

I can find lots of data, but not info on how to "sign up for this". If there is a registry??

My VSO told me about the Gulf war registry, so check with your local VSO, I also got an examination.

If you had boots on the ground in vietnam, make an appt. with the va and request a agent orange exam. This will get you on the register.

One thing about the AO Registry is that even if they find conditions related to AO exposure you still have to file a claim. The Registry is not an automatic claim system. For instance, if the AO Registry exam finds you have DmII you will still have to file a claim and most likely go for a C&P exam. If you have any secondary conditions identified in the AO exam you may still find yourself in a battle with the VA to get those conditions service connected. I really don't know what the purpose of the AO Registry is except to provide statistics for VA doctors to use to write articles for scientific journals and advance their academic careers. The AO Registry is a big ongoing statistical work to see what we die from and our morbidity and mortality.

If you recieve medical care at a VAMC, talk with your primary care provider
at your VAMC and let them know if you served in RVN and say you want to
recieve all medical test's and to be added to the AO Registry.

I am a disabled Vietnam vet and in addition have DMII for which I am currently undergoing re-evaluation.

I once tried to get into a VA clinic here in Morehead City but was told that a waiting list was at least a year to see a doctor (the clinic was new). If after a year, you have not seen a doctor at that clinic you have to "re-apply" for an appointment. I just spoke with the VA office in Durham this a.m. (after a dozen calls and holding for up to an hour on several occassions...LOL) and will be getting an appointment letter within 30 days I am told.

I will follow up on the registry.

I want to make sure that I add my 2 cents worth on the tracking of health care for veterans.

Curious here - how long has this registry been in exstence? and who (VA?) puts you on it? can you check to see if a deceased vet is on the list?

True, same with the Gulf war registry. They told me it can not be used to support my claim. Waste of time.

Don't know how long it has existed but if it is like the gulf war registry than you have to request an exam. A doctor will conduct an exam and lots of blood tests then your placed in the registry. I don't know if you can check to see if a deceased vet is on the list.

the registry is simply a list.If you were not "in country" it will at most vamc reguire a letter from your sen or congressman.that is what my experience was.then a simple exam. jim
