I take this medication at night for depression and anxiety but all it does is leave me feeling groggy and lethargic the next day like a bad hangover. Does anyone else who takes this med feel this way, how do you deal with it? Thanks.

Hi NavyDoc,
I take celexa (20 mg) and I experience the same side effects. I ran out in July and decided not to take it anymore. Long story short, I started taking it again in Sept. because I felt sad most of the time (off of it), tearful, out of it and extremely anxious. I take mine at night, also. When I first started taking it , I took it in the morning...not good. I take 6 pills at night and 11 (some are vitamins) in the morning. Since, I don't work, I take a nap most days.

Thats the catch 22 I'm in too I feel so much worse when I don't take it than when I do and I feel like I'm moving in drying concrete and my focus is horrible when I take it, but at least I'm not as depressed, it does nothing for my anxiety.

I take lexapro and lamictal.

How many mg's are you taking? Do you think you think it's too much for you? I'm about 145 lbs and I am taking 20 mg but my son was recently prescribed the same med (10 mg) and he weighs over 200 lbs.

To tell the truth, I didn't know I was depressed until I stopped taking it. I was in denial about the depression. My anxiety level was off the chart while off of it. Driving and anxiety don't mix.

Lexapro and Celexa are almost the same

i take citalopram, divalprox (depakote?) and as needed lorazepam. was on effexor but when complained about sexual side affects, swapped to citalopram. sorry, don't know the mg as wife does meds and can't find a bottle right now. seemed to put on fifty pounds of weight since divalprox, anybody else?

as far as feeling lost in space, not unless i downshift real close with the others chased by a lorazapam

Close pete but no cigar.....they both belong in the same family but are tweeked a little so that big pharma can make more money. I used to take paxil and thank golly gee i'm happy to be done with that one.

Many of these drugs are just knockoffs from the original ssri which was Prozac. Side effects that are common are sexual impotence, light headeness, etc.....

I think is mainly psychological to each and every person on how their synapses fire and how much of those feel-good chemicals are shooting around the brain.

We'll see...there's some great science and discovery ahead and I'm ready. Are you?

Paxil is a good anti-anxiety drug. However, you give up your sex life because it somehow inhibits the ability to have an orgasm in both males and females. Those who God wishes to punish he makes mad, or puts them on Paxil.

I haven't filed yet because i'm getting continuity but since being on Lexapro I am basically sexually impotent. I'm going to file for an SM(K) award and get the 96/month that I rightly deserve. Having no sex drive lowers anyone's quality of life.

Psyc's have me on Prozac 40 MG, Lorazepam 1 MG X 3, Gabapentin 600 MG and Prazosin. Take the Prozac and 1 MG of Lorazepam in the AM, another Lorazepam during the day if needed and another Lorazepam with the Gabapentin and Prazosin before bed. Hoped going through the CBT program would help so I could get off these drugs, no luck, going through the 2nd time, if this 2nd round doesn't help I guess like some I'm doomed to being in a "fog" for the rest of my life. I guess its better then "going postal" all the time and all the other nice things that come with a good dose of PTSD. Just hope the VARO in Detroit comes through in a postive way. Best to all.

I take 5mg abilify,10mg amlodipine, and 10mg enalopril in the am, celexa 40mg was up to 60, and trazodone at night. Doc wants to add lorazepam and clonidine with prazosin, I alredy feel like I'm in a fog already and can't concentrate. This tweaking my meds sucks.

Citalopram put me in nether nether land, and it also had some negative sexual urge side effects. Heard from someone it can be used to treat premature ejaculation. Went off too fast, and had some bad reactions. Extremely nauseous to the point of vomiting, headaches, electric like flashes in the brain. They have seemed to finally disappear after being off of med for a month.

wife thinks citalpram and celexa is same thing? i don't know, i just pop open the flap and swallow. one day when i'm feeling especially productive i'll apply for smc(k)

i apparently take 40 mg citalopram (and yes i found out it's celexa) and i kind of like it. i head for the coffee every morning, but my sleep apnea machine has me pretty rested overnight, so after a few cups i'm moving around. since i'm basically homebound (statuatorily 100percent anxiety/depression and 60 percent beyond that...and by choice) i don't really know how i'd be affected in the "real world".

yes they are the same one is generic and other brand name, I'm out of the house rarely, and find i'm more anxious when I do leave the house and have to psych myself up to get out, the celexa is supposed to help with my anxiety but it does nothing to help that.
