I recently applied for SDI and have just completed the functionality survey as did my girlfriend. Since I'm new to this phase of the disability fight I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on what I can expect next; or what the whole process is like. Thanks.

It is still very early in the fight. You may want to take your medical reocrds to an Occupational or Rehab specialist to get an independant medical exam. If you chose an attorney down the road you most likely be sent to one.
right now it is wait time. You will receive either an approval or denial in the mail. If you filed on line they should give you a pass word to check claim status even though they are very slow at updating.
You can be proactive and have the forms ready to go just in case you get a denial. ( request for reconsideration)
That stage is the best to get an attorney.

Do you mind telling your age?

I'm 43 I sent them the exams that I was given by QTC this past August when I was awarded IU.

Expect either some follow up, more forms to fill out or an appointment or two depending on your claim. It goes a lot faster than the VA.

Good Luck

Are the appointments like going to QTC docs or will I have to pay out of pocket?

No any exam for Social Security is paid by them. Only if you want an outside opinion on your dime do you pay.
