Does anyone take Maxide for Hypertension. I had an appointment with my 3rd Primary Care Doctor (been changed 3 times in 1 year) and the first thing she wants to do is change my hypertension medication from Acupril to Maxide. She transferred from the Woman's Clinic at the VA Copper Clinic.....she MAY be a Gynycologist? I do NOT trust her and was wondering if anyone takes Maxide and have any good or bad advice on it. I know it's a lot CHEAPER than what I have been taking for years.

It's a water pill. I take generic of this also. Can we say bathroom visits. This and Lisipril (sp) work for me.

It's a old form of HS Meds. (Cheap).

I was already taking a water pill, Indapamide, with the acupril. I also take 1500MG of Potassium a day, but the last 2 visits my Potassium level has been real low. She said this Maxide medicine was not as bad washing the Potassium out of you, but I am seriously thinking of changing to a private doctor even though my Hypertension is service-connected. The VA in my opinion has serious problems with getting and keeping qualified doctors, it's a wonder more vets aren't dead because the doctors seem to busy or "something" to take up very much time with you.

Jesse, The only true Doctors for controlling Hypertension are the Cardio Docs and the Kidney Docs. These specialist have an extensive Knowledge and can look at your blood work and may put you on the correct meds. Mine has changed from Metropolol, Nifedipine, Lisinoprol, to Nifedipine, Propanolol, Lisonoproil.
I had a heart cath and The Doctor Put me on IMDUR., Canceling the Nifedipine, and Propanolol Keeping the Lisinopril and restarted the Metropolol to control the heart rate. But it does work for me, Not totally controlled but allot better than the Regular docs had been doing. Imdur is a Nitro Glycerine, slow release.

Maxzide is non-potassium depleting. When I took lisinopril I had developed a very serious gagging cough that plagued me for over 2 years. A PA told me it could be lisinopril causing those symptoms. We switched to Felopine and it took care of the cough. I also take clonidine 3mg bid and labetalol 200mg bid. You better believe all that keeps my bp under control. I had used clonidine patches, but they burnt my skin. I lived with it till I found out about the pill!!
