Here I sit in the never never land of my xanax being 1 week late on a wednesday to it will be 9 days Friday and 12 days before the VA will accept a complaint and another 3 to 10 days to get it. Or if they lost it or it was stolen I will have to borrow from next months which always seems to be their answer to the problem they caused.

Instead I think I will call my HMO Doc and ask him to write a half presecription but still call VA and ask whats up.

I've had relatively good success with mail-order meds, but have had problems with providers updating them/inputting them. In that case, I do as you suggest and go to my Family Doc.

Also, CVS has given me a few pills (if I turn in the bottle) to hold me over until mail order shows up.

Pete

It is probably due to the holiday. My meds were actually 7 days late. I did have a hell of a time getting my pain meds via private doctors because Florida has reputation as prescription drug depot for drug dealers. All this means is that if you are honest it makes it harder and more expensive to get pain meds. My pain meds in August were filled on August 3rd. In September they were not filled until September 7th plus two days to get them to me. What is the excuse for that? They are just lazy and incompetent idiots. In Florida you can't just go to your favorite pharmacy and get xanax or percoset. Last time I could not get a private pharmacy to fill my percoset script. The ones that would fill it wanted cash. Perhaps I will go to pain pill mill I know about and just jump through the hoops so I don't have to depend on the VA.

The plot thickens. Last week it showed on Myhealthevet that the prescription had been filled and I reordered last thursday. Today myhelathevet is showing another date and the 800 number sold me what prescription my next prescription is due to be mailed out Oct 12th. The operator asked if I would hold and I did as wife and I headed out to VA. She than told me it would be mailed out sometime this week but could not give me anymore than that. I was in car almost to VA when she told me this.

So I went to VA and back to pharmacy and a nice guy went back and checked on things. He came back and told me that it was mailed from Dallas Monday cause of the screwups.

Hate to tell you all but your local pharmacy has nothing to do but fill new prescriptions. The VA has centralized all the mails by med for better efficiency .
They have a new 800 number
800 983 0933 8am to 4;30 pm CST. Good luck better keep an eye on these guys off to a bad start with me and I hate to be misinformed.

We will see if I get my xanax I am worried and concerned. May be an issue to bring up with shrink next week.

Sorry you're having to endure yet more pain & frustration, Pete.

Maybe a complaint to the IG could help (regardless if it's the right department; word gets around):

Starting in June 1991 the VA has consistently prescribed 4 x 1 mg of xanax to me. Except when they mess up the prescription has been continuous. When I don't get the xanax I suffer withdrawal which includes hyper anxiety and for me mistrust of all things VA.

I am pretty sure that without the prescription for xanax I would have a lot of panic attacks and other complications including not being a nice PaPa to my grand kids. I have figured that the xanax is like the kettle lid to a boiling pot. It keeps most of the outbursts and explosions bottled in and also prevents going to the complete panic mode most of the time.

I am thinking that instead of trusting the nincompoops at the VA I ought to see a shrink at my HMO and get a prescription for xanax to supplement the VA. I do plan to write a long complaint letter about this but to who. I like Notorious Kelly's idea of IG but I don't think other than an after the fact brush off nothing really would happen.

A few months ago the Post Office delivered my drugs to another house and several times I have gotten other Veterans meds, I have also had multiple instances of failed or late deliveries and the Post Office is saying that they will probably take a couple of more days to deliver mail.

If my HMO Doc prescribes a medication I can pick it up in 20 minutes or even have it delivered. I would be willing to have my son drive me to VA to pick up my meds but no that is not allowed.

I know that many here have good experiences with meds by mail but this is one Veteran who has not. The funny thing is I can make it without hydrocodone but not the xanax.

Update

I called the VA and asked for tracking number and they asked why. I told the man that I did not trust anything the VA said but at least with a tracking number I would know something was mailed. He said it was mailed yesterday but I checked the tracking number and it says mailed today so I guess I will get it Friday or Saturday.

Everyone I talked to at VA lied to me. Why do they do that?

xanax is very addictive just like valium and even clonazepam. If you stop taking it suddenly you will have some mean withdrawal symptoms. These include, for me, insomnia and being anxious as hell. If I could I would get a secondary source of the xanax. Just don't tell the VA.

Did not get here in today's mail but with tracking number I knew that. I am not going to the VA tomorrow since I did get tracking number and learn on internet that I was lied to 4 times and the VA has failed miserably to deliver meds timely and to aid me when I had a problem.

I expect them tomorrow but could be Saturday as I now have to depend on US Post Office in Dallas which is not reassuring either.

Pete, Do you take the xanax everyday? The reason I ask is my Dr (civ) told me I shouldn't take it with the 100mg of morphine and oxycodone together. But I have been anyway.

I get prescriptions for Codeine and oxycodone. Whenever it gets renewed by mail, it takes over 2 weeks or more. The doc supposedly sends the "hard copy" (for narcotics) and the pharmacy then fills it. In the past, it has taken a week or more for the Doc to send to VA the "hard copy" or the pharmacy a week or more to fill. Very frustating. If I ask to deliver the "hard copy" myself to the pharmacy, I have to drive 40 some miles to Spokane Wa. and take a number and wait 10 minutes or so just to drop off the copy(they won't just let you hand it to a pharmacy tech). Then another 1/2 hour or more wait and 40 miles home.

Hopefully one of these days it will get fixed but I am not optimistic. Still no meds but I plan to ride it out as my HMO Doc came through for me and I have a 7 day supply. Of course I should have had them last Friday.

The VA will not allow me to walk in and get meds that they have not even sent yet. Even when they have flubbed the dub. They also insist in lying which is an issue I plan to take up with the Inspector General.

I feel for you Pete since my pain meds were 7 days late including the mailing. Every month I wonder how late they will be or even if they will get there at all. I have to mail a renewal sheet in every month to get these drugs. If it gets lost or misplaced at the VA I am hurting. Now I have to go in for re-evaluation on the pain meds. I guess they want to see if I am selling them. I can't sell what I don't have.

I have been getting my medications from VA by mail since the last of 2006. I use My Health Vet for refills. Without hardly any problems.

The renewal block that has to be checked for me to a get the medication refilled. With exception of my Fentanyl patches. The block to check for my Fentanyl does not come up to be checked like the rest of my medications. Since Fentanly is one of drugs that the federal government states. This is one of the medications that can not have any refills on a prescription. A new prescription has to be written every month by your doctor. I was told to always call Prescription Refill by phone 7 to 10 days before my prescription for Fentanyl was due.

I call Prescription Refill on the first or second of the month.I have them to send my doctor a note to write a new prescription for my Fentanyl. Make sure he or she is there not on vacation or some other place. If your doctor is not there have them to contact someone that will write a new prescription. My doctor has a new prescription within one or two days discounting weekends and holidays.I receive my medication around the 11th or 12th by 10:30 am. It is always sent next day delivery. .So if your doctor does not write a new prescription every month without being reminded for medications on the federal list. You may want to. I know we should not have to call. But it is easier to call them, than run out. Withdrawals suck

My Hydrocodone prescription can show refills. So I have no problem with it.

Since I wrote this I will probably start having a lot of trouble.

I don't have those options at my VAMC. I get a form to fill out as soon as I get my percoset and fentanyl scripts. The form asks me a bunch of personal questions and I send it in to the VAMC. I have to get it there at least two weeks prior to my refill date. Some nurse does the scripts and the fill date is different every month. God help you if your fill date is a holiday.

John999 can you get on My Health Vet? It was a pain to get on but I think its the best way to go for me. Is all your medications messed up? If so I would call the prescription refill line on any medication that would cause harm to me if I missed several days taking it. Hell !!!! I would call them on all my medications if I had sent my papers back on time. To see if they were being shipped on time.

I just switched to Medicare for my CPAP supplies.

Traveling the country it was ridiculous what I had to go thru when needing a mask, filter or medicine refill.

I now can get supplies mailed or pick up a few miles from my house, and the appointment with a respiratory specialist was so pleasant I wrote a letter to her boss.

Gonna cost a little out of pocket but I already pay $100+ a month for the Medicare I have never used.

I recently went to a local doc who burned off some skin cancer that the VA probably would have cut out, since the only options seem to be cryo or surgery.
(He has some other fancy machine.)

It was $75 with free follow-up treatment if it wasn't all zapped the first time.

I'm improving my treatment and seriously decreasing my frustration level by using the VA selectively.

I'm sorry that it's such a circus for those of you depending on the VA for meds :(

I appreciate VA very much for my medications. I saved over $250.00 a month just on co-pays. On the insurance I had at work. Since I had to quit work and my insurance running out. I now receive my medications at no cost. VA has even refilled my medications early due to me going out of town. Maybe I have been lucky.

When I run out of refills I have been calling the pharmacy at the Walla Walla VA Hospital to get my doctor to reorder my meds. Lately they have been so short of staff that they won't even answer the phone. Yesterday I got a voice mail menu to choose from and followed the instructions to get my doctor to reorder my refills for the next six months. It worked but the VA hospital phone line is so busy it takes 5 to 10 tries just to get the operator to answer. Can I just call the above number for meds by mail myself and place an order with them without going through the VA pharmacy line?

I have decided to notify IG and complain about the mis information (lying).

I know nothing will come of it. I see my shrink next week and he is going to get an earful also and a request for a new prescription on visit.

If he refuses I will cancel him and just have my primary doc take care of it at least she will see me.

Maybe part of my delivery problem has been solved. My shrink is going to send a 60 day supply starting with next month. Although my Shrink is merely a medication Doc I like him and he has been supportive of me for almost 4 years.

Now next week I will see what PCP Doc has to say about hydrocodone?

I also want to thank all who participated and shared either good or bad experiences. This is how we learn.

Sooo, looks like I'm not the only one suffering because of the V.A.'s lack of common sense! I too am a week late on getting my prescribed Xanax. And today is Saturday, so even if I do get the package on Monday, that will make it 9 days late. Freaking awesome. Now I know why the Vet up here where I live in Maine went psycho/crazy/ptsd/outrage at the Togus V.A. Facility in Augusta Maine. I mean, seriously, this is a medication that is not only addictive, but also can cause THE WORST form of detoxing! If you are on it, you know exactly what I mean, muscles lock up on you, cant sleep, feel just straight up abnormal. OH! Did I mention that if you abruptly stop which I obviously had to do, it can cause SEIZURES and POSSIBLY......... D E A T H. I am sick and tired of making myself look like a drug addict when I call my local V.A. and try to find out what the hell is up with my meds! grrrr....makes me want to sue them. This happens about 80% of the time (medications arriving late in mail) Now this one is just absurd. There is no excuse for being that late. Snowstorm or not. Thats the Government though, cant trust em even in the Medical Field. I know this is a long post, but I just found this page and signed up immediately. Good to unite people who all have the same problems, that's how things change for the better! I want to ask one thing to those who posted that they went to their local pharmacy (non-V/A) and got a partial fill, how do you go about doing that?!
