Step 1: Know What You’re Claiming
Before you file, take a moment to understand what conditions you’re claiming. You’ll need:
- A current diagnosis
- Proof it began or was worsened during service
- Medical evidence showing the connection
Step 2: Choose How to File
You have options:

File directly through VA.gov. You’ll need:
- A verified ID.me or Login.gov account
- Digital copies of service and medical records (if available)

- By calling 800-827-1000
- Or with help from your VSO
