n a joint statement following defeat of the House bill, the eight VSOs said there is now an opportunity for “the House and Senate to work together in a bipartisan, bicameral manner to rapidly reach agreement to continue funding the Choice program uninterrupted in the short term — without forcing veterans themselves to pay for it.”

CHOICE was set up because of VA’s mismanagement of the wait lists scandal. CHOICE was not set up to give us more choices or because they care so much about us. It was and continues to be necessary because VA apparently can’t see patients in a timely manner. Do we deserve timely appointments? Yes! Should they cut our benefits to pay for it? No. The government cannot simply let the VA fail so they can put it on the public sector. It’s disservice to our brothers and sisters – Fund Choice, Yes! The government should fund CHOICE, not expect veterans to fund it by cutting each others benefits.
